What is balloon sinuplasty?
Also referred to as balloon sinus dilation, balloon sinuplasty is a minimally invasive, outpatient treatment that substantially improves upon endoscopic sinus surgeries that involve cutting through facial bones and tissues to release sinus pressure. During a balloon sinuplasty procedure, a small, deflated balloon is fed through the sinuses and gently inflated to carefully move facial bones and allow the sinuses to drain. A topical numbing agent – not anesthesia – is administered to reduce any discomfort. The bones will heal on their own, and the patient can immediately return to his or her busy schedule following treatment.
