Odactra and Dust Mite Allergies in the Tampa Area
Odactra and Dust Mite Allergies in the Tampa area
Odactra is a prescription medicine used to treat allergies caused by house dust mites.
If you suffer from sneezing, runny or stuffy nose, or itchy eyes all year round—especially indoors—house dust mites might be the reason. Odactra helps reduce these symptoms by targeting the root cause of the allergy.
How Does Odactra Work?
Odactra is a type of oral sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT).
That means it helps your body build a tolerance to dust mites by giving you small amounts of the allergen over time. It comes as a tablet that you place under your tongue every day.
What to Expect
- Relief: Odactra doesn’t work right away. It may take several weeks or months to feel the full benefit.
- First dose at the doctor’s office: Your first dose would be taken in our office in case of a rare allergic reaction.
- Daily treatment: After the first dose, you can continue to take Odactra at home once a day.
Is Odactra Safe?
Most people tolerate Odactra well. Some common side effects include mouth or throat itching or swelling, which usually go away with time. Serious allergic reactions are rare, but our staff will give you guidance on what to watch for.
Is It Right for You?
Odactra is approved for people ages 12 to 65 who have been diagnosed with house dust mite allergies. Talk to our physicians at the Scotch Institute of Ear Nose & Throat to see if Odactra could be a good option for you.
