Oral Appliance Therapy for Snoring and Mild to Moderate OSA

What is an Oral Appliance?

One option for many patients suffering from Mild to Moderate Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) & Snoring, is a custom fit oral mandibular appliance.  Snoring and Sleep Apnea develop due to changes in the airway that restrict air flow.   The oral appliance fits gently around your teeth, and maintains an open airway by preventing the collapse of the tongue during sleep by holding, or advancing the lower jaw, in a more forward position.

This option has been recognized by the FDA and most insurers to be a safe and effective treatment.  To qualify for coverage of Oral Appliance Therapy, you will need to have a Sleep Study, either at home or in a facility based Lab.

If this is the treatment that you and your doctor choose, then we can recommend a dentist to consult with you for the device fitting. Some adjustment is typically necessary and is done in small increments over time to maximize comfort and effectiveness.

The vast majority of oral appliance users find the Somnoguard device to be very comfortable and easy to use. For some, an adjustment period of up to two weeks may be necessary.
