A New Option from Your ENT Doctor
If you struggle with moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), you probably know how frustrating it can be to find the right treatment. CPAP machines, oral or dental devices, or even surgery are common options—but now, there's growing interest in a new medication that might help: Zepbound.
Zepbound® (tirzepatide) is a prescription weight loss medication that helps people lose weight by targeting hormones involved in appetite and blood sugar. Since being overweight is a major cause of sleep apnea, losing even a modest amount of weight can make a big difference in your breathing at night.

Significantly Reduce Breathing Disruptions
What’s new is that the Scotch Institute of Ear Nose & Throat, located in Trinity, FL and Wesley Chapel, FL has a new tool with Zepbound to help their patients manage sleep apnea, especially if weight is a contributing factor. Zepbound may reduce symptoms by helping to open up the airways during sleep as the body weight decreases, and has been shown to significantly reduce breathing disruptions during sleep
This can be especially helpful for patients who:
- Can’t tolerate a CPAP machine
- Want to avoid surgery
- Or are looking for a more complete treatment plan.
If you think excess weight might be making your sleep apnea worse, talk to one of our ENT doctors about whether Zepbound could be part of your care. We may also work with your primary care physician to make sure the medication is safe and right for you.
Managing Sleep Apnea isn’t One-Size-Fits-All
